Shafaq News/ Gas stations in Baghdad and the governorates returned to using cash instead of electronic payment due to poor internet service, which led to the failure of attempts to pay for fuel via financial cards.

Shafaq News Agency monitored complaints by car owners and gas station workers due to the failure of the electronic payment process for fuel via financial cards due to poor Internet service, which forced government and private station administrations to return to direct cash payment, to avoid wasting time in electronic payment attempts.

For his part, the director of the Baghdad Distribution Authority at the Petroleum Products Distribution Company at the Ministry of Oil, Muhammad Shubar, told Shafaq News Agency, “The return to cash payment at some gas stations due to the weakness of the Internet in Baghdad and some governorates is a personal issue for us, and this matter is borne by the Central Bank of Iraq and companies.” Electronic payment.

He stated that "the program that these companies are working on is with the Internet (3G) service until now, while the matter requires a more advanced service, and for this reason we have formally submitted a proposal that the Central Bank force electronic payment companies to use the (Intranet) network because they are not affected by Internet shutdowns." Because of exams and other things, and there is no confusion or weakness.”

He added, "Among the obstacles we suffer from is the sudden cessation of the electronic payment program at gas stations, as well as the weakness of the Internet. We also have committees that follow up on all gas stations, whether in Baghdad or the governorates, to implement electronic payment and prevent any cash transactions, but the defect is always in the program." Electronic payment companies are stopping due to the weakness of the network and pressure.”

The Iraqi Council of Ministers had previously decided to adopt financial cards instead of payment and cash exchange at fuel filling stations and other transactions for citizens in buying and selling.
