    The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs asked investment companies to determine the type of work they need, in order to design specialized training for national workers.
    The Ministry’s spokesman, Najm Al-Aqabi, explained in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, “We granted two opportunities to violating foreign workers after obtaining the approval of the Prime Minister to correct their legal course. 12,000 applications were submitted through the electronic portal, including the Ministry’s owners. 9 thousand applications from various nationalities, especially Syrian nationality as a special status.”
    Al-Aqabi added, “The number of foreign workers is very large, despite the fact that Labor Law No. 37 of 2012 requires employing 50% of foreign workers compared to 50% of nationals, and the proposal that will be applied in foreign investment companies contracting with the state is to impose 70% of national workers compared to 30%.” of foreign workers.
    He explained that “foreign workers will not enter Iraq except after they are skilled and after searching the database for work and vocational training,” noting that “all specializations are available, and if they are not available locally, foreign workers are allowed to enter with inclusion in social security, supported by experience certificates and certified by The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassy of the country of foreign worker nationality.
    He explained that “the number of those holding a license from the Ministry of Labor does not exceed 42 thousand foreign workers, and this number is decreasing, as it is an annual license that the majority of workers do not renew, while the excess foreign workers enter the country in various forms, including religious tourism,” indicating that the Ministry “ Mechanisms have been put in place to reduce illegal foreign workers, and we asked investment companies to fill out a questionnaire outlining their requests to search for specializations, to begin training Iraqi workers in the Ministry’s training centers, especially the oil industries.”
