[rtl]The Ministry of Industry and Minerals revealed a plan to study the reality of 295 of its suspended factories, noting that rehabilitation has already begun for several factories, including iron and steel, pharmaceuticals, and others.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Ministry’s spokeswoman, Doha Al-Jubouri, explained in a press statement, “The first step in reform and development is to focus on the important strategic industries that include iron, steel, petrochemicals, fertilizers, medicines, sulfur, phosphate, and cement, in addition to the chemical and electrical industries.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Jubouri added, “Minister of Industry Khaled Battal Al-Najm formed a committee to study the reality of the 295 factories affiliated with the ministry,” noting that “104 of those factories are completely stopped, and we are studying the possibility of rehabilitating them or not.”[/rtl]
[rtl]She stressed that “the study concluded that some factories cannot be rehabilitated, and some are useless due to the end of their lifespan and the technology in which their production lines were operating, which prompted the Ministry to move to offering them in partnership with the private sector,” pointing to “offering the stalled factories for investment.” In partnership with the private sector in accordance with the Ministry of Industry’s partnership law.”[/rtl]
[rtl]In turn, a member of the Economy, Industry and Trade Committee, Kazem Al-Fayyad, told Al-Sabah: “The industry file was subjected to very great neglect, especially after the year 2003, in addition to the wide opening of the borders to enter all materials coming from neighboring regional and foreign countries.”[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Fayad explained that “importing caused a deterioration in the industrial reality, after flooding the local market, which led to citizens turning to imported materials, even though some of them were poor and entered without being subject to Iraqi standard specifications,” indicating that “some of these materials do not enter the markets of many countries.” It is not sold to its citizens.”[/rtl]
