Shafaq News/ Informed sources revealed today, Tuesday, that the "barons" of gambling halls are using their influence to pressure the Minister of Interior to stop the closure campaign implemented by the ministry.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, "Political parties are pressuring the Minister of Interior to stop the special campaign to close the gambling halls and the sale of alcohol in restaurants, especially in the Karrada area, at the expense of the gambling barons and the gambling halls."
The source added that at the same time, residents of the Karrada area put up banners demanding that the minister continue the campaign and remove alcohol shops and private halls from residential areas.
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior is carrying out a major campaign to close unlicensed gambling halls and clubs, which has resulted in the closure of dozens of these halls in the capital, Baghdad.
