Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Ahmed Al-Asadi stressed on Wednesday that people with disabilities and special needs are an integral part of society, noting that everyone must work to create a comprehensive environment that provides them with equal opportunities and supports them to achieve their ambitions.
Al-Asadi said in his speech at the first national forum held by the Authority for the Care of People with Disabilities in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, according to a statement received by / Today News / that "the National Service Government has paid great attention to the issues of people with special needs, and worked to implement projects and programs that contribute to improving the daily lives of this group, and enable them to participate in all community activities," noting that "the challenges they face require concerted efforts and joint work to overcome obstacles and provide them with the necessary support."
He added that "the Ministry of Labor, based on its efforts to develop policies and services that meet the needs of persons with disabilities and special needs, has been keen to provide various services to persons with disabilities, starting with our insistence, in cooperation with the Parliamentary Labor Committee, to amend Law No. 38 of 2013, which included many articles that facilitate the lives of persons with special needs, and provide them with the capabilities they need, whether material or legal facilities."
Al-Asadi pointed out that "the country is heading towards a major construction and reconstruction campaign, including: building new, serviced cities that take into account the needs and requirements of this category, and require the appointment of 3% of persons with special needs in investment projects."
Al-Asadi added that the Ministry of Labor has launched a set of services for beneficiaries, including:
- "Job Opportunity" service in accordance with the policy of integration and empowerment for people with disabilities
- "Your wound is an honor" service to include military wounded in the privileges approved by the Law on Persons with Disabilities
- "I can" service to follow up on the implementation of the provisions of Law No. 38 of 2013
- Inclusion in the application service for postgraduate studies
- Exempting students with disabilities from government evening study fees
- Reducing the percentage of tuition fees by 50% for students with disabilities in private universities
- Opening psychological support units in Baghdad and the governorates to reintegrate people with disabilities
- Opening employment units to facilitate the entry of able-bodied disabled people into the labor market
- Training more than 2,000 beneficiaries of people with disabilities and special needs in Baghdad and the governorates
- Launching a community rehabilitation program in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Education to reach people with disabilities and provide them with various medical, social, psychological, educational and professional services
- Launching the "Al-Ghadeer" electronic educational platform, which includes various development services, courses and programs, including: training in sign language for the deaf And reinforcement classes for orphans, in addition to development programmes for shelters.
