    Baghdad Today - Anbar
The spokesman for the popular movement in Anbar, Dhari al-Rishawi, criticized, today, Sunday (August 11, 2024), the state of corruption witnessed in Anbar, and the absence of deterrent measures by Baghdad, stressing that the ruling party is pressuring politically to ease measures against the corrupt.
Al-Rishawi said in an interview with Baghdad Today: “We were encouraged by the judicial procedures of the Integrity Commission and the rest of the oversight institutions, which carried out campaigns against the corrupt people affiliated with the ruling party in Anbar.”
He added, "Unfortunately, these measures have declined again and their severity has eased, and it seems that there is political pressure exerted by the ruling party, in order to ease the measures against the corrupt people from whom it has benefited financially."
He pointed out that "former Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi and his party are tampering with Anbar and its resources, the land and airport file, the Eighth Brigade, compensations, the retirement department, the lands of al-Azrakiya and the Fallujah Dam, all of which are evidence of what al-Halbousi and his party are doing, and they must be held accountable."
Earlier today, independent politician Muhannad Al-Rawi confirmed  to Baghdad Today that “Al-Halbousi, in 2018, when he was governor for six months, was running the governorate remotely, and the deputy governor at the time was Ali Farhan, who was running things and was implementing what Al-Halbousi asked of him to the letter, and this is what Farhan confirmed in more than one meeting.”
He added, "There has been a significant increase in corruption in Anbar since 2018, and most of the directors of the main departments in the province are accused of corruption and are in prison," noting that "operations to strike corruption and the corrupt in Anbar are taking place on a daily basis."
While the narrator said that "there is a great deal of political cover to protect corruption and the corrupt," he added: "After Halbousi left the presidency of parliament, and Mohammed Shia al-Sudani came to head the executive authority, and separated the overlap between the legislative and executive authorities, he began to strike the dens of corruption in Anbar."
The independent politician concluded by saying: “Al-Halbousi may not be the first sponsor of corruption in Anbar, but he may be the one who provides political cover for the corrupt.”
On Tuesday (November 14, 2023), the Federal Court decided to terminate Mohammed al-Halbousi’s membership as Speaker of Parliament, due to the proof of his forgery, after a lawsuit was filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi.
The lawsuit filed by Al-Dulaimi against the dismissed Mohammed Al-Halbousi was on charges of “forgery,” which ended with a decision to terminate Al-Halbousi’s membership in Parliament after the crime was proven.
