Clearing the land of the Al-Nebras Petrochemical Project from mines

The Mine Action Department of the Ministry of Environment has completed clearing the land of the Al-Nabras Petrochemical Project in Al-Zubair District, Basra Governorate, of war remnants.
The director of the media office of the department, Mustafa Hamid Majeed, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The total area of the project is about (4500) dunums, as the department has completed the work of clearing the land of mines and war remnants after conducting the necessary surveys.
He added that the project is for the benefit of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, which currently intends to establish the largest petrochemical complex in the Middle East, located in Basra Governorate.
Majeed explained that the clearance and mine removal work was carried out with great efforts in cooperation with elements from the Ministries of Defense and Interior and the Popular Mobilization Authority, in addition to assigning the Basra Organization to carry out the qualitative control work that follows the removal activities.
He pointed out that the work was under the supervision and monitoring of the Mine Action Department, as it is the highest authority concerned with this file, and it was carried out free of charge without costing the state treasury any sums, as it would have been possible to spend huge sums of money if it was implemented by commercial companies specialized in mine action work.
