    Economy News - Baghdad
The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs revealed, today, Wednesday, the objectives of the social research on beggars, which was launched a few days ago.
The Director of the Department of Media, Arab and International Relations at the Ministry, Kazem Al-Atwani, said, "The campaign launched by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior aims to eliminate the phenomenon of begging in the capital, Baghdad, and the governorates."
Al-Atwani explained that "after the beggars are arrested by the Interior Ministry and placed in detention, the Ministry sends their data and in turn the Ministry of Labor conducts field research to ensure that they are entitled to aid or not, and those who are entitled will complete the procedures to include them in the social protection aid," stressing that "there will be no one who is not entitled to aid among those included in it."
He added that "the Ministry of Labor's campaign is limited at this stage only to beggars who have been arrested and placed in the Ministry of Interior's centers and those who are being investigated and included," noting that "a written pledge will be taken from them that they or any of their family members will not return to the profession of begging, and legal measures will be taken against those who return to it."
Al-Atwani stressed that "the campaign comes as a continuation of what the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has achieved in eliminating poverty after covering more than 7,000 individuals with social protection assistance."
The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, announced the launch of a social survey of beggars in Baghdad and other governorates to include them in social assistance and services provided by the ministry.
The head of the Social Protection Authority, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, said, "The Ministry of Interior sent the data of the beggars who were arrested and deposited with it to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs."
He added, "The social protection departments in Baghdad and the governorates are ready to conduct field research on beggars deposited with the Ministry of Interior to include them in social assistance, with a pledge not to return to begging again."
Al-Moussawi added, "This step comes within the government's direction for cooperation between government institutions to support the poor and eliminate negative phenomena in society, including the phenomenon of begging."
