The Ministry of Communications confirmed on Tuesday that websites are blocked in accordance with final and binding judicial decisions or requests from the Media Authority, security agencies, the government, or parliament.
The ministry said in a statement, seen by Al-Eqtisad News, that "with reference to what was circulated by some media outlets today regarding blocking websites and the accompanying exaggeration and inaccuracy, the Ministry of Communications would like to clarify to the public that it is committed to the law and applicable instructions."
It added, "Blocking is done in accordance with final and binding judicial decisions or official requests from the Communications and Media Commission, security agencies, senior government bodies or parliament, because the ministry is only a technical executive body that possesses the necessary devices for blocking and is not the one that makes the decision to block websites or not."
