Strategic Planning for {Sabah}: Census will revitalize services

The government has intensified its efforts to complete the population census, scheduled to be conducted on November 20, amid optimism that this step will revive the services file by providing accurate data that will serve the health, education, trade and economic sectors.
While the Parliamentary Strategic Planning Committee expressed its optimism about the census outcomes and the accurate statistics it will provide on various activities, the governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will begin the packing, enumeration and numbering operations during the next few days, in preparation for conducting the general population and housing census. The
Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning and Government Program Follow-up Committee, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, said in an interview with Al-Sabah: "The accurate statistics that the population census will provide will diagnose the development gaps, which will facilitate the process of analyzing them and finding solutions and strategic plans to advance the economic reality," noting that "the census targets the human mass and existing resources and will reveal the nature of the population and demographic structure, in addition to determining the numbers of homes, farms, factories and businesses."
Al-Baldawi added, "The state has now begun the first step by developing the five-year plan that was announced, in addition to the Iraq Development Plan 20/30, which must be adhered to and its axes."
Al-Baldawi continued by saying: In the absence of a real census or the availability of real data, there will certainly be development problems in the education, health, industry and trade sectors, pointing out that there is a shortage in the number of universities, schools and hospitals, in addition to the housing crisis, due to reliance on inaccurate statistics.
In the same context, the governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will begin the packing, inventory and numbering operations in the coming few days.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Acting Head of the Statistics Authority in the region, Sirwan Muhammad, told Al-Sabah: There was a delay in starting training courses for workers due to purely financial and administrative procedures, in coordination with the Statistics and Geographic Information Systems Authority in the Ministry of Planning in Baghdad.
He added that the days of packing, enumeration and numbering in the region do not take as long as in the rest of the provinces, as they are related to the number of units included in that in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Zakho, Soran and Halabja according to the existing maps and satellite images, pointing out that there is a sufficient number of enumerators to finish the work within 45-50 days to compensate for the period during which those operations were delayed.
He explained that the work is being carried out in parallel with what is happening in the rest of the provinces, with the aim of actually starting the general population and housing census, scheduled for November 20.
He explained that the packing, enumeration and numbering process will take place in the coming days after the arrival of the tablet devices to the region.
