    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The United States of America has vowed to respond to an attack by armed groups that targeted its diplomatic facility in Baghdad, accusing groups supported by Iran of being responsible for the attack.
The US Mission in Iraq said in a statement received by Baghdad Today, today, Friday (September 13, 2024), that "on Tuesday, September 10, the Diplomatic Support Complex in Baghdad, which is a US diplomatic facility, was attacked," indicating that "fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, and evidence indicates that the attack was launched by groups allied with Iran that operate freely in Iraq."
“The Government of Iraq has repeatedly expressed its commitment to protecting diplomatic missions as well as U.S. military personnel who are in the country at the invitation of the Government of Iraq,” she added, stressing, “We again call on the Government of Iraq, as we have done on numerous occasions, to protect our diplomatic and coalition partner personnel and facilities.”
She added: "We affirm our right to self-defense and protect our people anywhere in the world."
A US embassy spokesman revealed on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) that the US diplomatic services complex in Baghdad was attacked late Tuesday.
Reuters quoted the spokesman as saying, "The US diplomatic services complex in Baghdad was attacked late on Tuesday, but there were no reports of casualties."
He added, "The embassy is assessing the damage and its cause and will provide more information when its assessment is complete."
Security sources reported on Tuesday (September 10, 2024) that a bombing targeted the US embassy’s logistics center inside Baghdad International Airport.
The sources stated that "the shelling, the nature of which is not yet known, whether it was missiles or mortar shells, took place near the logistical support of the American embassy, and another near the headquarters of the Counter-Terrorism Service, all of which are located within the approaches to Baghdad International Airport."
For his part, the military spokesman for the Hezbollah Brigades, Jaafar al-Husseini, described the missile attack that targeted Baghdad Airport at dawn on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) as “suspicious.”
Al-Husseini said: “Targeting Baghdad airport at this time is being carried out by suspicious hands, and its aim is to disrupt the Iranian president’s visit to Baghdad. We call on the security services to uncover those involved.”
