    The Security Committee of the Nineveh Council announced today, Friday (September 13, 2024), that the governorate’s record is free of tribal “deaths” during 2024.
    The head of the committee, Mohammed Al-Kakai, said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Nineveh leads the Iraqi governorates in terms of the level of security stability through an objective reading of all events, noting that even criminal crimes are very low, and this is evidence of everyone's keenness to maintain the blessing of security."
    He added, "Nineveh's security record is free of tribal rivalry during 2024," noting that "on the positive side, 80% of family and even tribal disputes end before reaching police stations due to the interaction of the community's spectrum with calls to resolve disputes amicably based on the foundations of justice, and this is an advantage for Nineveh society as a whole."
    He pointed out that "the most important factor of security in Nineveh is the citizen who, through his keenness and cooperation, prevents any deterioration and seeks to maintain the state of reassurance that revives stability and gives a glimmer of hope for the future, and this is what we see now."
    The phenomenon of tribal "dakat" is widespread in Iraq, where members of the tribe attack the house or residence of the opponent from the other tribe, opening fire and chanting slogans threatening to kill, and the opponent is given a period of 3 days to come and seek their arbitration and submit to their conditions. Or they can attack and kill in cases of revenge or various financial and social quarrels and disputes.
    The reasons for the tribal bench have recently developed to include matters that society considers trivial, and that provoke comments or likes on Facebook on a topic that this or that tribe considers offensive to it. Some of them have recently affected media professionals and talk show hosts in Baghdad, as well as citizens who attacked government officials whose tribes considered it an insult to them.
    More than two years ago, Iraq issued a law considering the “tribal assault” as a terror crime, and stipulated that it be dealt with through the Anti-Terrorism Law to limit its spread in society, but that did not end this phenomenon.
