The Parliamentary Finance Committee requested, on Tuesday, from the Ministry of Planning estimates of non-oil spending and revenues.
The Parliament's media department stated in a statement received by Mawazine News, that "the Parliamentary Finance Committee, headed by Atwan Al-Atwani, and in the presence of its members, held an expanded meeting today, Tuesday, in which it hosted the Deputy Minister of Planning, Maher Johan, where financial and economic policies and plans to maximize non-oil revenues were discussed." Atwani praised "the noticeable change in the ministry's policy in introducing projects and stressed the importance of following up on technical details that fall within the planning jurisdiction, with regard to increasing non-oil revenues and reducing dependence on oil."
The committee touched on "discussing plans to increase revenues through ports and customs, charting the path of expected resources and mechanisms for determining them and the importance of adhering to the plans in place while providing alternatives that contribute to achieving sustainable development."
The Finance Committee requested "clarifications regarding the Ministry of Planning's plan to develop financial and economic policies, in addition to estimates of spending and non-oil revenues."
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Planning provided "a detailed explanation of the ministry's plan related to monetary policy, project management and the study of general budgets", pointing out "the possibility of building an economic model that includes financial, economic and trade policy, through automating ports and taxes and unifying procedures in various sectors, in addition to studying economic activities and applying the principles of free trade while protecting the national product".
The committee concluded its statement by saying that "the interventions of the committee members focused on a number of issues, including ministries' projects, managing financial policies to enhance the budget, supporting the private sector, and improving services, in addition to facing the challenges facing the ministry's work, with the need to follow standards for evaluating performance, coordinating financial policies and reviewing some important laws, in order to provide appropriate solutions, by reviewing the experiences of other countries".
