The Ministry of Transport intends to launch the second package of its plan to activate public transportation by opening (38) new lines in Baghdad and the governorates, and agreeing with universities to include students and employees in educational institutions in this service.
The Director General of the General Company for Transporting Passengers and Delegations affiliated to the Ministry, Karim Kazem Hussein, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The Ministry has achieved success during the past period at the operational and investment levels on the one hand, as well as at the level of services provided to various segments of society on the other hand, by adopting a public transport work plan, where (34) out of (72) lines were opened in the areas of the capital, Baghdad, in addition to equipping and preparing buses with regard to the lines operating within the university campus, or through the paths passing through it.
He added that work is currently underway to launch the second package of lines inside and outside the capital by opening (38) new lines and deploying red double-decker buses to operate on them, in addition to expanding the work of those lines and approaching the rest of the universities in order to include them in public transportation services, which comes within the efforts made to serve students and the educational institution in general in the country.
In the same context, Hussein pointed out that the General Company for Transporting Passengers and Delegations owns (300) modern buses and coaches, a large part of which have been deployed in the recently opened lines, in addition to those buses carrying out the transportation of visitors during the millions of religious visits, in addition to the effective contribution to the return of displaced families to their homes, in addition to its undertaking the task of transporting the Lebanese refugees recently, as the company has harnessed all its capabilities and formed an operations committee to undertake the process of transporting them, following up on their file, and allocating the necessary buses to complete these tasks.
