    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The head of the Strategic Center for Human Rights, Dr. Fadhel Al-Gharawi, confirmed that the city of Baghdad ranked 13th globally among the most polluted cities, joining the maximum category of PM2.5 data, according to the AQI pollution scale in Iraq, including the capital Baghdad, indicating high values exceeding 150-225 mg/m³.[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Gharawi said, in a statement followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "these values exceed by about 18-24 times the health limit permitted in the atmosphere according to the World Health Organization (WHO).[/rtl]

[rtl]He pointed out that Iraq is suffering from climate changes, increasing rates of global warming, and the deterioration of its water and environmental situation in particular, which has led to an increase in storms, higher rates of air pollution, and a change in the cover from a vegetation cover to a cement cover in all Iraqi governorates, especially the city of Baghdad.[/rtl]

[rtl]He pointed out that dust in Iraq contains 37 types of minerals that have a dangerous impact on public health, in addition to 147 different types of bacteria and fungi that help spread diseases, and the high concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere of Iraq, such as volatile materials PM2.5, which reached approximately 39.6 micrograms / cubic meter, indicating a significant and dangerous increase in the levels of these pollutants, at a time when the World Health Organization recommends that the average concentration of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 micrograms / cubic meter, which led to poor air quality and an increase in the incidence of respiratory diseases in many Iraqi governorates.[/rtl]

[rtl]He added that the city of Baghdad has been suffering for some time from the spread of foul odors laden with sulfur, in addition to the burning of thousands of tons of waste, which has generated a high level of dust pollution that has caused many cases of suffocation.[/rtl]

[rtl]Al-Gharawi called on the government to launch an initiative to build plant cities instead of cement cities, enhance the plant cover by planting 15 billion perennial trees over ten years, establish waste recycling plants in all governorates, and adopt the first day of each year as a national day for clean air.[/rtl]
