    Mawazine News - Baghdad
Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said on Saturday that the recent contact between Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and US President-elect Donald Trump was highly positive. While noting that the communication reflects the mutual desire between Baghdad and Washington to maintain a high level of understanding, he stressed that the Prime Minister welcomed Trump's statements about stopping the war in the region and announced his readiness to participate in this path to maintain stability.

Al-Awadi said in a statement to the official agency, followed by "Mawazine News", that "the recent contact between the Prime Minister and US President-elect Donald Trump was highly positive between the two presidents, and without a doubt such a contact should have taken place 48 hours after President Trump won the elections and before the official inauguration day. The keenness of both parties to communicate by phone reflects the mutual desire between Baghdad and Washington to maintain a high level of understanding and communication and push relations to higher levels."

He continued, "The two parties stressed the importance of moving forward with relations, and the Prime Minister referred to President Trump's positive statements about stopping the war in the region and stressed his readiness to participate effectively in this path to maintain stability in the region, and President Trump also indicated his aspiration to meet with the Prime Minister soon, which confirms that Baghdad and Washington are committed to the agreed path and what is required is cooperation to enhance it."

He continued, "Baghdad and Washington have been able, since 2011 until now, to build solid infrastructure for relations based on technical and professional committees and a clear roadmap starting from the Strategic Framework Agreement SFA, the Joint Cooperation Committee JCC, the Higher Coordination Committee HCC, and the Joint Security Dialogue Committee JSCD, in addition to the role of the foreign ministries of the two countries and the role of ambassadors, and the continuation of hotlines through the international relations committees in the Prime Minister's Office, and this culminates in communication between the Prime Minister and senior US administration officials, and each of these committees plays its role in a professional and technical manner far from political influences in strengthening the reality of the relationship between the two countries."

He pointed out that "certainly the political relationship between Baghdad and Washington has gone through ups and downs, but the solid ground, mutual readiness for joint work and good intentions have always adjusted the level of decline and pushed it forward. Therefore, the Iraqi government, based on its primary duty to preserve Iraq's foreign interests, places the relationship with the international community and major countries at the top of the list of political priorities and will continue the path of working with various administrations on the basis of common interests and mutual respect."
Yesterday, Friday, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani made a call with US President-elect Donald Trump, in which they agreed to coordinate together to end wars in the region. The

Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement received by NRT Arabic, a copy of which, that "the Prime Minister expressed during the call his congratulations to the President and the American people on the occasion of winning the elections, and the great confidence that the American people have given him."

He added, "The two sides also stressed the desire to advance the strategic partnership between the two countries, and to strengthen bilateral relations in ways that go beyond the security aspect, through close cooperation in the fields of economy, finance, energy and technology."

The Prime Minister, according to the statement, indicated that he was "aware of Trump's words and promises during the election campaign, which included his commitment to ending wars in the region, and the two sides agreed to coordinate together to achieve this."

For his part, the US President-elect expressed "his desire to work positively with the Prime Minister, and to meet soon to discuss expanding relations between Iraq and the United States of America, and to work on these common files."
