Kurdistan Region President: The administration of Article 140 areas in partnership with Baghdad and Erbil will cut the way for the return of ISIS
In his speech at the "Peace and Security Forum in the Middle East" hosted by the American University of Kurdistan - Duhok, President Barzani said that "the last elections took place 6 months ahead of schedule, in response to the demands of the demonstrators in the 2019 protests," stressing that "there must be We have a position and a vision for Iraq after and before ISIS, and we ask ourselves about the factors that led to the emergence of ISIS, are they over? The answer is no."
He added, "After the elections, the opportunity is available to grant the natural rights of the people, and to achieve security and stability, and this also needs time, and the next government should work to achieve the people's demands, and political partnership among all."
The head of the region continued by saying: It is true that we achieved a military victory over ISIS, but we are facing two stages at the present time: the first is to establish trust, peace, security and stability, and the second is to provide services to all the people.
He noted that "there are three components in Iraq, the Shiites, the Kurds, and the Sunnis, and these components have a political geography that unites them. Therefore, in partnership between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government, the areas of Article 140 of the Iraqi constitution must be administrated to block the path to the return of ISIS and prevent its expansion again."
