Obama Plans Surprise Trip to UK to Back Stay-in-EU Campaign – Reports
US President Barack Obama is planning to go to London, as an extra leg of his German trip in April, where he will urge Brits to vote for UK’s membership of the European Union, UK media reported Sunday.
WASHINGTON - Obama’s intervention will be just two months ahead of the June 23 referendum where British voters will decide whether they want the country to stay in a reformed European Union.
The UK outlet said that the prospect of Obama’s speaking in favour of UK’s continued membership of the 28-nation bloc has infuriated Leave campaigners.
A petition has already been launched at the UK parliament’s petitions website to prevent the US president from delivering a speech at the Westminster Parliament on the in/out referendum.
