Ireland announces €6 million in humanitarian aid to Iraq, Yemen

Baghdad (BasNews) Ireland has announced €6 million in humanitarian aid to Iraq and Yemen which are currently raged by fierce wars which has resulted in a large-scale displacement of civilians.

From the fund, €2m is being given to the Iraq Humanitarian Pooled Fund in response to the needs of almost 11 million Iraqi people affected by the violence linked to Islamic State (IS), and the counter-insurgency operation launched by the Iraqi government, Irish media reported.

However, the fund is not being directly going to the Iraqi government, but the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will disburse it to meet the crucial humanitarian needs in the country.

Irish Minister of State Joe McHugh was quoted by media saying, “Ireland’s funding to the Iraq Humanitarian Pooled Fund will provide assistance to the people affected by the crisis in Iraq including families and children, who are often the worst affected by conflict.”

“Providing funding through Pooled Funds means that the most urgent needs can be met quickly, be they for food, shelter, health or protection for the most vulnerable,” he stated.

Last year Ireland provided €2.5 in humanitarian aid to Iraq.
