The Syrian forces reached the border with Iraq, thus enabling the construction of a corridor for the transfer of arms needed by the Syrian army from Iran to Syria via Iraq at a location 20 kilometers from the Syrian-Iraqi border crossing. Cargo cars are starting to run.
"Opening the way to reach Syria from Iran via Iraq allows us to overcome the difficulties of transporting military goods, weapons, ammunition, medicines and other assistance from the Islamic Republic," retired Syrian general Yahya Soliman told the Izvestia daily.
Iran is a major source of arms supplies to Syria. So far, arms supplies have reached Syria by air or by sea via Lebanon, both costly and delusional. Now the obstacles have been removed.
