Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov on Wednesday warned the United States against unilateral actions in Syria.
"Washington's statements about the preparations for chemical attacks by Damascus make it difficult to negotiate in Astana and Geneva," Gatilov said.
"Provocations can always be," Gatilov said, answering the agency's question of whether Moscow excluded provocations in Syria against the backdrop of recent White House and Pentagon statements.
Of course, there are a lot of enemies who want to sabotage this negotiating process so any provocation is possible, "he said.
"We are always talking about this, including with regard to its recent attacks on the Syrian armed forces," said the deputy foreign minister, asking whether Russia was warning the US administration against unilateral actions.
"We believe that it is unacceptable that this violates the sovereignty of Syria, and this has no military necessity, and there is no error on American specialists from the Syrian armed forces, so these actions are provocative," he said.
He considered it unacceptable that America's attempts to increase tension with regard to Syria.
The comments came after Defense Department spokesman Jeff Davis said Washington had apparently spotted Syria's preparations for a possible chemical weapons attack at Shaareat airport, the same airport that was attacked by Washington in April.
