4 years after its signing and before its implementation .. Canceling the gas pipeline facilities for the Iraqi oil pipeline to Jordan

    August 07, 2017 - 4:20 | Number of readings:

Sumer News: Iraq decided to cancel the gas pipeline, which was supposed to be accompanied by the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline, in the joint venture with Jordan, which did not start implementation despite the passage of 4 years of signing.

The director of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ashraf al-Rawashdeh, said: "This approach was aimed at reducing the costs of the project to speed up its completion."

He added in a press interview published today that the project developer will look for an alternative to the operation of pumping stations instead of gas, and commensurate with the economic feasibility of the project.

He pointed out that the duration of the contract of development and management of the project has been increased to 25 years instead of the previous period of 20 years before being handed over to the Jordanian government.

On April 9, 2013, the two countries signed a framework agreement to extend a pipeline to transport Iraqi crude oil from Basra to export ports at the port of Aqaba at a total cost of about $ 18 billion.

The cost of implementing the project within Jordanian territory is estimated to be between $ 6 and $ 8 billion, implemented by the private sector according to a method that will be built according to the BOT system .

The project includes a 60-kilometer sub-pipeline reaching the Jordanian oil refinery in the city of Zarqa (20 km east of Amman). It will then continue to the export terminal in Aqaba, where the pipeline will transfer more than 2 million barrels of refined oil per day to Aqaba.
