Merkel: I will discuss with European leaders "ending negotiations" with Turkey

    Editorial Date: 2017/9/4

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Sunday she would discuss with European leaders the end of negotiations with Turkey to include the European Union or not, and to identify a common position against Turkey.
This came in a televised debate between Merkel and her opponent, the leader of the Social Democrats, Martin Schultz.

Merkel pointed out that "the negotiations can end only with the consent of the member states of the European Union."

She also called on the German Chancellor to "increase economic measures against Turkey, and accused them of moving away at an accelerated pace of all democratic habits."

"We can think of giving a tougher warning to our citizens not to travel to Turkey," she said.

"If I become an adviser to Germany, I will stop Turkey's accession negotiations with the EU," Schulz said.
