Kuwait took over the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month, replacing Kazakhstan, the second time Kuwait has held the presidency of the council since February 1979.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador to the United Nations, Mansour Al-Otaibi, briefed journalists on the Council's program of work under his presidency this month, including a ministerial-level briefing on the goals and principles of the Charter of the United Nations in the maintenance of international peace and security.
The Ambassador said that the Council would hold two briefings on the issue of terrorism this month, one on United Nations counter-terrorism efforts against the Da'ash organization and the second on the report of the Counter-Terrorism Committee under resolution 1373 on the implementation of resolution 2341 on vital infrastructure.
Al-Otaibi said the council will closely monitor the outcome of the January meetings on Syria in Vienna and Sochi and will continue its regular briefings on the humanitarian, political and chemical weapons situation.
On other Middle East issues, the issues of Iraq, Palestine and Yemen will also have a share in the Council's program of work for this month.
