Iraq: 21 candidates for each seat in Parliament

The number of candidates for the 90-day parliamentary elections will reach 6810 candidates nominated by the parties, the legal expert Tareq Harb said Monday.
Harb said in a statement that "the Electoral Commission announced yesterday that the number of candidates to participate in the election campaign of the House of Representatives, which will take place after 90 days was 6810 candidates nominated by the parties to compete in the parliamentary elections on 2018/5/12 and the number of seats in the parliamentary competition is 329 Seats ".
"With a simple calculation involving the number of candidates, which is 6810, the number of seats in the House of Representatives is 329, the result will be approximately 21, meaning that each seat in the House of Representatives will be contested by more than 21 candidates, which means that the number of candidates is not weak or double or ten times."
He added that "the parliament passed a law of parties so lenient that only 2,000 can form a party. As there is a party cancer that has increased to 200 parties, there has been an electoral cancer in the number of candidates. This has increased the electoral law, which allowed each candidate party twice the number of seats from each party Baghdad, which share 60, for example, each party can nominate twice the number of seats in Baghdad, so each party will nominate 120 candidates, not 60 candidates only. We do not know why the nomination in the law and UNHCR regulations approved the nomination of weakness and not the nomination number equal to the number of seats.
He wished the war on "the Commission to provide statistics on the types of candidates, such as the current number of candidates and the quality of certificates, employees, traders, academics, workers and peasants and reconstruction and other information of interest to everyone and not make the subject of a clan.
