    BAGHDAD - Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said on Tuesday that Iraq is seeking to increase cooperation with Russia in the field of gas and military equipment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he will visit Iraq in the coming period after the agreement on the new headquarters of the Russian embassy in Baghdad.
    "Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow," Jaafari's office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency.     Jaafari said during the statement that "the Iraqi-Russian relations have seen a remarkable development in the past period, and achieved achievements at the level of interests of the two countries," noting that "investment opportunities for Russian companies are wide, and open to work in Iraq."
    "We seek to increase the volume of cooperation in the field of gas, military equipment," pointing out that "Iraq is keen on continuing security coordination and exchange of information to reduce the spread of terrorist cells."
    Al-Jaafari expressed thanks for "the training of 90 diplomatic staff, and the exchange of diplomatic experience between the two countries," explaining that "Iraq seeks to mobilize international support, and stand by friendly countries on his part in the reconstruction of infrastructure of Iraqi cities."
    Jaafari stressed the need to hold the eighth session of the Iraqi-Russian High Joint Committee in Baghdad, calling on Lavrov to "visit Baghdad in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and Moscow."
    For his part, Lavrov said that "holding regular meetings of the Joint Commission is evidence of the interest of President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government in cooperation with Iraq in various fields, including economic, and strengthen the defense force and military equipment," expressing his "support for the Iraqi government in its efforts to restore security and stability to Iraq, we are very happy for the efforts to rebuild, build after achieving great victories against terrorism, stand by the unity, the sovereignty of Iraq. "
