BAGHDAD - Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said on Tuesday that Iraq is seeking to increase cooperation with Russia in the field of gas and military equipment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he will visit Iraq in the coming period after the agreement on the new headquarters of the Russian embassy in Baghdad.
"Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow," Jaafari's office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency. Jaafari stressed the need to hold the eighth session of the Iraqi-Russian High Joint Committee in Baghdad, calling on Lavrov to "visit Baghdad in the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between Baghdad and Moscow."
