The former governor of Nineveh province, Athil Nujaifi, on Sunday accused Iran of fabricating the story of Mohammed bin Salman's visit to Iraq, while pointing out that it carries an electoral message to the center and south of the country.
"The story of the Saudi Crown Prince's visit to Iraq is an example of Iran's sincerity in determining the compass of Iraqi-Arab relations," Nujaifi wrote in a blog post on Sky Press.
He said that "the fabrication of the story of the visit, a message, exceeded the Prime Minister to the religious authority in Najaf," noting that "what happened to encourage supporters of the visit in the early days and then raise the masses against it is a model of what can be faced by advocates of rapprochement Saudi Arabia."
