Parliamentary efforts to activate the {solar energy} initiative

The Parliamentary Energy Committee seeks to activate the Central Bank's initiative aimed at introducing solar energy into homes, with the aim of reducing pressure on the national grid and improving the level of electricity stability for citizens.
The initiative, which was launched some time ago, has faced some difficulties, whether in terms of banks' dealings or lack of awareness among citizens, but it is still ongoing and the committee is working to find solutions.
The Parliamentary Committee revealed its support for activating the Central Bank's initiative in the field of financial support for purchasing solar energy systems in Iraq, and while it indicated that the amount allocated for the initiative amounted to one trillion dinars, it confirmed that what was spent amounted to only about 250 million dinars.
Member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee and head of the Renewable Energy Subcommittee, MP Amanj Al-Harki, stated in a statement to "Al-Sabah" that "the Central Bank's initiative has not stopped," noting that "the amount allocated for the project amounts to one trillion dinars ($800 million), 230 million dinars of which have been spent so far. Despite this, the problem with the initiative lies in dealing with banks that face difficulties in managing the established mechanism, in addition to the lack of sufficient awareness among citizens about the benefits of this initiative."
The MP pointed out that "the initiative provides loans with low interest rates of up to 5 percent distributed over five years, which means that citizens will only bear 1 percent annually. Despite the clarity of the idea, citizens have not yet learned how beneficial it is, and this is part of the problem."
The member of the parliamentary energy committee added that "there are technical differences in the materials required to implement the project," adding that "these were overcome through the parliamentary committee's meeting with the government's Committee 54, where the technical specifications were determined and distributed to all ports, border areas and customs to ensure the application of international specifications."
Regarding the proposed solutions to overcome the difficulties, Al-Harki explained that "the committee submitted a proposal to the Ministerial Committee 54, which includes qualifying companies specialized in the field of renewable energy by the Ministry of Electricity," adding that "these companies provide solar energy services to citizens, and then they are compensated through the Central Bank. He also suggested that 10 companies be allocated to each city to implement the project, to ensure its smooth implementation."
The MP said, "We are now in the stage of qualifying and submitting companies, and we expect the project to enter into force within one month."
