    BAGHDAD / The Iraqi government decided on Wednesday to stop the import of recycled plastic products that are part of food preservation for its danger to public health and the environment.
    "The decision came during the 13th session of the ministerial economic affairs committee headed by Minister of Planning Salman Jumaili where it was decided to ban the importation of recycled plastic used for food and beverage preservation in order to protect the public health and the environment," said a statement by the Ministry of Health and Environment.
    "The Economic Affairs Committee decided to form a national committee consisting of ministries of health, environment, industry, minerals and planning, which will prepare a national standard for the recycling of local plastics and determine the percentage of the returned materials in the product," the statement quoted Director General of the Ministry of Environment and Environmental Information Department Amir Ali al-Hassoun as saying. The local provided that the production of cans or bags or utensils used in the preservation of food and beverages contain recycled plastic materials and take advantage of the international standards in this area.
    He added that "the Committee stressed the need to tighten controls on imported imported plastic and used in the manufacture of bags and wallets for the preservation of food and drinks."
    The Director General of the Technical Department in the Ministry of Health and Environment Shatha Kazem said that "one of the important recommendations of the Committee to consider environmental approval as a national document governing all border crossings, which is an important achievement of the Ministry and appreciation of the extraordinary efforts of cadres working in order to preserve the health of Iraqi citizens and protect the environment from any contaminants Affect them ".
    The technical agent in the ministry Jassem Abdul Aziz Al-Falahi made an important presentation explaining the purpose and urgent need to issue this decision in the framework of protecting the health of citizens from the risk of contamination of food materials may be carcinogenic using plastic bags and bags in addition to environmental damage and economic multiple.
    "The meeting also addressed the tightening of controls on the import of used and preventable substances, which relate to many of these substances, which are in fact waste and hazardous waste disposed of by exporting them to Iraq as used materials."
    He pointed out that "the Ministry of Health and Environment, seeking to stop the import of plastic bags of all kinds and rely on the recycling of local plastics, because the process of recycling is of great importance in preserving the Iraqi environment." Finished
