(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) The head of the National Dialogue Front, Saleh al-Mutlaq, presided over the three presidencies and the House of Representatives to convene an emergency session to discuss the water crisis.
"At a time when the country is going through difficult political conditions, and parallel to the problem of electricity, which started at the beginning of the summer, we are facing a new crisis and more affecting the public life, the drought crisis," al-Mutlaq said in a statement. Which threatens large parts of our lands in the Tigris River basin due to climate changes on the one hand and the Turkish side operating the modern Alesso dam and the decline of Iraq's water share in this river on the other hand.
He added that "in the face of this serious crisis, which will probably spill even drinking water and the country is no longer bear the crisis and the deterioration of the situation because of the failure of the political process to build a real state and the failure of the government to develop a water policy to accommodate the need to spare the country such a crisis and to stop the consequences of the crises that We live, including the water crisis, we call for the following:
1. An urgent meeting of the three presidencies with heads of political blocs to discuss the issue of the water crisis and the search for urgent solutions.
2. Convening an emergency session of Parliament for the same purpose.
3. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs played an active role in coordination with international organizations to convince the Turkish side to postpone the work of Eliseo to the end of the summer and to create the conditions in Iraq to contain the repercussions of the operation of this dam.
4. The seriousness of this crisis because it directly affects the public life of many of our people and if the attempts to solve the problem failed, we call for the internationalization of this issue and call on the United Nations to intervene to reach solutions that contribute to spare Iraq a humanitarian and environmental disaster.
