Putin and Trump exchanged friendly messages ahead of the G7 summit

    2018/06/09 00:10

(Encyclopedia of this Day News | Iraq News ) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a dialogue with the US president "can be constructive," at a time called for Donald Trump Friday to re - Russia, which deteriorated his country 's relations with the lowest level, to the Group of Seven.

"He is a rational person who is able to listen and respond to the arguments of his interlocutors," Putin was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying during a television program to be broadcast on Saturday.

"All this makes me believe that dialogue can be constructive" with Trump, Putin said.

Putin's comments come at the time of Trump's proposal to bring Russia back to the G7 from which it was removed in 2014.

It was not clear whether Putin made his statement before the US proposal.

"Russia should be with us at the negotiating table," the US president said before leaving Washington for the G7 summit in Canada.

In contrast, the four European countries in the group: France, Italy, Germany and Britain refused to return Russia.

The last meeting between Putin and Trump dates back to November 2017 in Vietnam.

Kremlin adviser Vladimir Ochakov confirmed in early April that Trump had proposed during a telephone conversation a meeting with Putin.

Ochakov said Western countries accused Russia of poisoning former Russian agent Sergei Scrippal and his daughter Yulia.

In addition to the Scrippel case, Russia's involvement in the US elections in 2016, and the collusion between Trump and the Kremlin, have contributed to the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Washington to the lowest level.

Relations between the two superpowers have deteriorated in recent years over differences over the Syrian conflict and Russia's annexation of the Crimean peninsula in western Ukraine.

In addition, Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear agreement signed with Iran in 2015, which Russia confirmed its adherence to it.
