Iraq told Washington not to accept any foreign bases on its territory and urged it to abide by political agreements on fighting terrorism and training Iraqi forces. He also stressed the need to carry out preemptive operations to thwart any attempt to advance Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said in a statement that the latter discussed with US Defense Secretary Patrick Chanahan the development of relations between the two countries, the war against terrorism and developments in the region. He pointed to Iraq's keenness on relations with the United States, to contribute to the fight against terrorism and to speak. He urged Washington to abide by basic agreements - fighting terrorism, training Iraqi forces and nothing else. He stressed: the non-acceptance of any foreign bases on Iraqi territory. He explained that the Iraqi decision is independent and is not affected by any influence and dictates from any party. He pointed to the openness of Iraq to its Arab and regional environment and its keenness to establish cooperative relations that serve the interests of the Iraqis and enhance the chances of development and stability for the peoples of the region. He said that Iraq has achieved clear successes and is witnessing stability today after defeating the children's sacrifices and social cohesion and unity of the Iraqi people.

For his part, Shanahan expressed his country's pride in the cooperation relations with Iraq and its satisfaction with the security and stability it is witnessing. He said that he did not listen directly to the Iraqi government's vision of the nature and future of relations between the two countries. He pointed out that there is active in the Iraqi parliament and discussions on whether to reduce the number of US forces in Iraq, and I wanted to clarify to Abdul Mahdi that we We know our role and realize that we are here at the invitation. He added that the subject of US forces in Iraq and President Donald Trump's comments on Iran were not discussed during my talks with Abdul Mahdi, but he told me that Iraq needs to maintain strong relations with both Washington and Tehran.
