The mayor of Sinjar, Mahma Khalil Ali Agha, on Saturday called for the cancellation of the 2018 elections that distorted state institutions with suspicious results.
"The 2018 elections, which distorted state institutions with suspicious results, should be abolished, and a new sober election law should be enacted and a new body to meet the ambition of the Iraqi environment," Agha said in a statement received by Mawazine News.
He added, "The demonstrations taking place in a number of Iraqi provinces are not against the government and its former legacy, which produced fraudulent elections and suspicious results, but is to correct the course of the electoral process."
He stressed "the need not to allow what happened in the elections in 2018 to take place in the upcoming local council elections, which is the compass for the next new government."
He added, "The results of previous elections cast a shadow on all service and productive sectors, so it was the first politicians of Iraq to immediately dissolve the Electoral Commission and cancel the results of the 2018 elections and the enactment of a new law and a new election commission."
