Masjedi: The architects want to sabotage our friendship with Iraq and the events in Najaf are not the desire of the government and its people

The Iranian ambassador in Baghdad Erj Masjedi, that the events in the city of Najaf yesterday, aimed at sabotaging the relationship between his country and Iraq.
"The purpose of the engineers and foreign agents of what happened in Najaf was to sabotage the bonds of friendship between Iran and Iraq," Masjedi said.
"What happened was not the will of the Iraqi government or its people," Mehr quoted Iran's ambassador to Iraq as saying.
"We have witnessed such acts in Iran, where the wicked and the vandals carried out acts similar to those in Najaf," he said.
Protesters burned the Iranian consulate in Najaf on Wednesday night and city police imposed a curfew until further notice.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry immediately condemned the attack on the Iranian consulate in Najaf. She said the attack was aimed at "damaging relations between Iraq and Iran," saying that what happened to the Iranian consulate "does not represent the official position."
The demonstrators lowered the Iranian flag from the consulate building and instead raised the Iraqi flag.
