(International: Al Furat News) A group of rare photos showed how Chinese scientists are conducting studies of viruses in uniforms similar to that of astronauts in a virus lab that has given rise to strange theories about the origins of the Corona virus.
The Wuhan Institute of Virology, which maintains more than 1500 strains of deadly viruses, specializes in searching for "the most dangerous pathogens", especially viruses carried by bats, according to a report of the British newspaper "The Daily Mail".
The plot: The virus has originated in the laboratory
Since the emergence of the new coronavirus in the city last December, the institute, which cost 34 million pounds to create, was at the heart of conspiracy theories, which indicate that the virus originated in the laboratory.
While scientists believe the virus has been passed on to humans from wild animals sold as food in a market in Wuhan, conspiracy theorists are promoting various assumptions.
Some of them claim that the virus may be a biological warfare weapon designed in the laboratory, while others claim that it may have leaked from the laboratory, a claim that has been refuted by scientists and has no scientific basis.
In a study published by the prestigious scientific journal Nature:
"The emerging corona virus is the seventh generation of human corona virus," the most prominent of the previous generations is the SARS virus that causes acute respiratory syndrome that appeared in 2003, and the "Mers" virus that causes respiratory syndrome in the Middle East, which It appeared in the year 2012.
A number of researchers participated in bacterial diseases, epidemics and immunology in American, British and Australian universities, and published on the seventeenth of March 2020.
These researchers concluded by saying, "Our research proves that the emerging coronavirus is not designed in laboratories or Virus M. Rather ".
China denies: has nothing to do with it
China has repeatedly denied these allegations. Shi Zingli, director of the institute, told the press in February that she had "guaranteed her life".
The photos, taken in 2015 and 2017, give a glimpse into the controversial institute's interiors after its completion.
In the photos, the researchers are shown wearing swollen protective suits covering the entire body as well as head shields during experiments.
It is noteworthy that Chinese officials decided to build the institute after the country destroyed the SARS outbreak between 2002 and 2003, and the laboratory, which helped the French in designing its building, took 15 years to complete it, costing a total of 300 million yuan (about $ 42 million).
SARS, another type of coronavirus, has killed 775 people and infected more than 8,000 people worldwide.
The most advanced in China
The laboratory, the most advanced of its kind in China, consists of four floors designed with the highest level of biosafety.
Its construction was completed in 2015 and officially opened on January 5, 2018, after passing various safety checks.
China Youth Online describes the laboratory as “the aircraft carrier of Chinese virology.” The state-run newspaper said it was “able to research the most deadly pathogens.”
And about the work of the laboratory, one of the researchers, Xiu Ping, a bat virus specialist, told Xinhua Official in 2018:
"We are proud to say that we are already at the forefront in the study of the bat immune mechanism, which has been carrying viruses for a long time.
There are two main virus labs in Wuhan; the Wuhan Virology Institute is located about 10 miles from Wuhan Market, Huanan "which is believed to be the starting point of the epidemic.
The city's second institute, Wuhan Disease Control Center, is located three miles from the market.
