deputy of the State of Law coalition, Kataa al-Rikabi, confirmed on Saturday that the budget still includes strong pitfalls, while indicating that the position of his coalition on restoring the dollar exchange rate is fixed.
"The Parliamentary Finance Committee will complete the final draft of the 2021 budget today after settling the points within it, in the presence of the Speaker of Parliament at the late hour of yesterday evening, in order to vote on it in today's session," Al-Rikabi said in a statement to the information.
Al-Rikabi added, "The budget may go today, but it still includes major pitfalls through the presence of controversial points about which the narration varies, stressing that the position of his coalition on the exchange rate of the dollar and returning it to its previous position is fixed because raising the price has caused great harm to large segments of Iraqis."
He pointed out that "the financial situation of Iraq has changed with the rise in oil prices in the past weeks, which calls for a review of the dollar exchange rate."
The House of Representatives decided late yesterday evening to postpone its session until this morning in order to settle the budget law.
