Parliamentary Finance: The search for gains in early elections disrupts the budget

     MARCH 23, 2021

I left its headquarters to throw off "impossible" block requests.
    Baghdad - Waad Al-Shammari:
Yesterday, Monday, the House of Representatives Finance Committee called on the political blocs to stop pressuring and submit requests within the budget that are not possible to investigate, confirming that the law has been ready for voting for more than a month, but it talked about disrupting it due to the search for gains in early elections.
The committee's rapporteur, Ahmad al-Saffar, said, in an interview with “The New Morning”, that “the reason for delaying the approval of the budget is the political blocs and the search for personal interests away from the suffering of the Iraqi street in poverty and economic instability.”
Al-Saffar added, "The technical and organizational sides have already been completed by the Finance Committee, and the budget has been ready for voting for more than a month."
He pointed out, "The Presidency of the Council of Representatives cannot set a date for the voting session; Because of political interference and the search for interests, which is very unfortunate. ”
Al-Saffar explained, "The discussions showed us that everyone uses the budget to search for gains in early elections. Without them, the law would have passed a month and a half ago."
And he stressed, “We are still under great pressure to introduce things that are not possible. Because the budget does not bear more expenditures.
Al-Saffar revealed, "During the last two meetings, on Friday and Saturday, a decision was taken within the Finance Committee to leave our headquarters; Because of the pressure of the blocks, to continue our work in a better atmosphere.
He pointed out, "The most prominent claims are not possible to change the exchange rate of the dollar, which is not the prerogative of the House of Representatives, and a change in the provincial shares, we know that everyone has the right to what is being asked, but the existing is not enough."
Al-Saffar went on to say that "the dispute with the Kurdistan region is not the only problem, but rather is part of a large group of problems that stood as a stumbling block in the vote on the important project."
For his part, Committee member Jamal Cougar said, in a statement to "The New Morning", that "there are many problems in the budget law relating to the claims of the political blocs even though the project is ready for voting."
Cougar continued, "Talking about an article related to the Kurdistan region and making it the only one as the cause of the dispute is not correct, as the Shiite blocs can agree on an alternative text when it included the government project and proceed with the law with the majority."
He continues, "The budget has been long overdue, and it is not reasonable to comment citizens' economic and financial issues on the differences."
Cougar went on to say that "delaying the budget more than this time means that it is useless because it will be implemented after the first half of this year."
It is noteworthy that the Kurdish delegation ended a visit to Baghdad early this week without reaching an agreement, while the Presidency of the Council of Representatives announced the postponement of the vote on the budget law until next Saturday.
