    A government official in Diyala announced, on Sunday, the completion of the first phase of the project to rehabilitate the border wells in the east of the province .
    The director of Qazaniya district (98 km east of Baquba), Mazen Al-Khuzaie, said, “The technical and engineering effort of the Ministry of Water Resources has completed the implementation of the first phase of the project to rehabilitate the border wells urgently, which includes 13 wells, 9 of which are in Mandali and 4 in Qazan, with depths of up to 70 meters, pointing out that the stage It includes a comprehensive examination of the wells, determining their needs, and recording all deficiencies in order to start the second phase of rehabilitation, which will start next Tuesday .
    Al-Khuzaie added, "The wells, in the case of their operation and pumping water in one pipeline that extend to the central liquefaction stations, will constitute an important factor in supporting the provision of water for more than 50 thousand people who represent the central inhabitants of the Mandali and Qazan districts, which are the largest border cities in eastern Iraq ."
    He pointed out that "the project of rehabilitating wells and other drilling represents an important solution to avoid a looming drought crisis that may lead to a humanitarian catastrophe, stressing that the cadres of the Ministry of Water Resources are working urgently to complete the file of drilling wells before the coming summer ."
