{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Agriculture revealed new measures to ensure the availability of all crops and products at reasonable prices with the approaching month of Ramadan. The ministry’s measures come after the high prices that citizens touched in many products and commodities in the local markets.
Al-Mukhtasar al-Mufid .. In important news, you can find it on the Al Furat News channel on the Telegram .. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
The spokesperson, Hamid Al-Nayef, said in a press interview, "A meeting brought together the Minister of Agriculture with the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Trade, and resulted in an important agreement by order of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, that all steps are taken to ensure that all products are available to consumers at reasonable prices." Security committees have been formed, in conjunction with the Ministry, to monitor prices, smuggling, increase abundance, and ensure that there is no scarcity of any crop, especially since we are on the eve of the blessed month of Ramadan, and therefore we want to secure price stability for all citizens.
The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Al-Khafaji, had affirmed the government's endeavor to protect the local product and find advanced marketing methods, indicating that the blessed month of Ramadan would witness a relative decrease in agricultural product prices, according to a plan drawn up by the ministry to help the low-income people.
Al-Nayef added, "The ministry has mobilized all its forces in order to provide the daily food basket for the Iraqi citizen, in all ways by supporting and protecting the national agricultural product, and if there is any shortage in the production of a crop, the ministry will open its import," noting that "the price increase if it occurs." It is caused by the merchants who monopolize the goods, and not the peasant who sells at the lowest prices. Therefore, other circles must be fought, that is, the purchasing offices that monopolize the product and do not deliver it to the citizen in the correct manner. "
Al-Nayef added, "These parties must be hit through the security services and the Organized Crime Department, and they must follow the process of selling the crop from the farmer until it reaches the market until prices stabilize."
The local markets are witnessing a remarkable increase in the prices of foodstuffs, vegetables and fruits, with the approaching month of Ramadan.
According to observers, these price fluctuations came as a result of raising the exchange rate of the dollar, in addition to this coinciding with the approach of the blessed month of Ramadan and the striving of the weak-minded to monopolize commodities and basic crops.
Al-Nayef pointed out that "the ministry is continuing to increase the production of crops and products, expecting an abundance of crops with the onset of the summer season, with the exception of the tomato crop, which will decrease with the end of the season and the beginning of a new season. Therefore, the ministry has taken measures in this regard, as it allowed the import of 50 thousand tons of tomatoes."
Cabinet spokesman Hassan Nazim announced yesterday the issuance of a directive to the Ministry of Agriculture to open the door to import for a certain period to cope with the high prices.
For his part, Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Khaled Al-Muhanna said that there are several complaints received from citizens regarding the increase in the prices of some foodstuffs and crops.
Al-Muhanna added that "all materials on the market are not priced by the ministries of commerce and agriculture," noting that "the Ministry of Interior is concerned only in the legal aspect, which is related to the practice of some monopolizing or speculating in the market and other such matters that are inconsistent with the law."
He stressed that "in the past period, some cases of monopoly occurred in light of the circumstances of the Corona pandemic, as some tried to monopolize foodstuffs, but the Economic Crime Control Directorate responded to these cases and the materials were seized in the local markets."
And on poultry and fish, Al-Mihna said: "These products have affected their prices, global conditions, as many of the raw materials such as food and medicine are an import process, which is what caused an increase in their prices."
