Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi discussed today, Monday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif, that the two countries will fulfill their financial and contractual obligations.
The media office of the Prime Minister said, in a press statement, that “Al-Kazemi received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Muhammad Javad Zarif and his accompanying delegation,” indicating that “during the meeting, they discussed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries in a manner that serves mutual interests and enhances trade exchange in both directions. They also discussed that the two countries fulfill their financial and contractual obligations.
The statement added, "During the meeting, they discussed the cooperation of the two countries in confronting common security threats, based on the cooperation that occurred during the confrontation of the terrorist organization ISIS and preventing its resumption of activity."
Al-Kazemi stressed "the importance of communication between officials of the two countries, in light of the rapid developments taking place in the region and the world, which require the continuation of dialogue and the exchange of ideas between the countries of the region."
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Jawad Zarif referred to "the importance of the role played by the Iraqi government and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, whether at the level of the relationship between the two countries or at the level of regional files more broadly, and the role of Iraq in adopting the policy of dialogue and calm for the sake of security, stability and peace in the region." Emphasizing that "the Islamic Republic of Iran rejects any action or behavior that negatively affects security in Iraq."
