The French president talked about the survival of his country's forces in Iraq, if the Iraqi government requested that, without considering the US military withdrawal, as well as statements he made supporting Christians and opening a French consulate in Mosul and introducing French companies to invest in Iraq.

On this issue, political analyst Ziad Al-Arar says, “The French president has no right to talk about keeping French forces inside Iraq or in the Iraqi vicinity without obtaining the consent of the concerned countries,” noting that “Iraq is conducting official negotiations with the American side and the international coalition to end the withdrawal from its lands.” ".
He added, "It is the Iraqi government that decides whether or not the forces will remain, the need for them and the number, and therefore the French president spoke about providing support, but it is not within the powers of the French president or any other country."
With regard to the French role in Iraq, Al-Arar explains, "France has been trying since Five months to have a new role in the region, and it conducted special negotiations with the American and British sides regarding its role in Iraq, and considers itself the master of the European Union after Britain's exit, and thus there is an imposition of new balances in the Middle East.
