Australian Defense Minister Maris Payne said the talks between Australia and New Zealand were indivisible in Iraq and her talks with her New Zealand counterpart would discuss reviewing the deployment of New Zealand troops in Iraq.
"The New Zealand government is due to review the deployment of its forces at the Taji base north of Baghdad in September, while Australia would like to see the New Zealand troops remain in the camp as part of the so-called international coalition mission in Iraq," Steff said.
"The discussion between the two ministers comes as part of expanding New Zealand's mission in Iraq from a training mission to the advisory and assistance role," she said.
"The two countries enjoy very strong military relations in Iraq and we are working closely in the Pacific and more operationally," the Australian defense minister said.
New Zealand Defense Minister Ron Mark said that "the participation of the New Zealand Defense Force in training alongside Australia and the United States (in Iraq) reached the highest levels."
The foreign presence in Iraq is widely rejected by the political and popular people as unwelcome forces, especially after the great victory of the security forces and the popular mobilization of criminal gangs.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives voted (1/3/2018) on a resolution obliging the Iraqi government to prepare a timetable for the withdrawal of the international coalition forces from Iraq in all their names and forms of combat and others.
