On Thursday, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced the loss of 3,400 megawatts of electricity due to the decline in Iranian gas imports.
The ministry said in a statement, "There have been renewed declines in the release of Iranian gas supplied from our stations, which seemed clear on the hours of supplying electric power, especially after the national system entered the winter load period."
She added, "Despite the existence of prior agreements with Iran to provide us with 70 million cubic meters of fuel in the summer, and 50 million cubic meters of it in the winter, which fills the actual need, the decline, which reached 8.5 million cubic meters, has begun to negatively affect the work of Our plants, causing a decline in production and a loss of approximately 3,400 megawatts.”
It indicated that it "entered into serious negotiations with the Iranian side to urge it to abide by the terms of the contract signed between the two parties, and its tireless efforts to continue pressure to raise the rates of gas supplied to meet the urgent need in light of the incompleteness of the local fuel plan."
