The General Company for Railways will soon conclude a contract to prepare studies and designs for the rail link project between FAO and Turkey (dry canal), in addition to contracting with an international company to link the internal network with neighboring countries.
In the meantime, the company launched a number of projects as investment opportunities, including a project to link the holy governorates of Karbala and Najaf.
The company's director, Talib Jawad Kazem Al-Husseini, said: "The company has prepared plans that include directing the Faw-Turkey railroad project, (dry canal), as a contract will be signed in the coming days to prepare studies and designs for the project."
He added that "the FAO-Turkey project will be announced as an investment opportunity with a length of 1220 km after the completion of studies, and it is part of the Silk Tunnel project, which is to be implemented during the next year 2022."
Al-Husseini explained that "the company is preparing to sign another contract with an international company to connect the internal network with neighboring countries, including (Baghdad - Turkey), and run trains with electric wire lines."
He stated that "work is also underway to start implementing the suspended train after the completion of the designs for the project by the (Khatib and Alami) companies, and the submission of studies by a coalition of the French (Alstom) and Korean (Hyundai) companies."
Al-Husseini pointed out that “there are other projects presented as investment opportunities, including the project to link the two holy governorates of Karbala - Najaf with a 70 km railway line, as local and foreign companies submitted their offers, which are currently under study, in addition to the arc line project of Musayyab - Karbala - Najaf - Samawah with a length of 70 km.” 230 km". On the operational side, Al-Husseini pointed to “the completion of the extension of modern network lines, and the organization of three trips for travelers per week between Baghdad - Basra and vice versa, and we are counting on the transportation of oil derivatives for the purpose of promoting the service situation and enhancing the company’s revenues, as more than 212 tanks were recently imported with international specifications and origins.” Turkish".
