The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the implementation of an air operation called "Winter Eagle" against terrorists in the areas of Al-Malikiyah - Derik, Sinjar and Qarajiq, which they use as bases for them in northern Iraq and Syria.
In a statement seen by Al-Nour News, the ministry stated that the operation aims to neutralize the PKK/KJK/YPG terrorists and others, eliminate terrorist attacks from northern Iraq and Syria targeting citizens and security forces, and ensure border security.
She added, "In line with the right of self-defense emanating from Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, Operation Winter Eagle was carried out against terrorist hideouts in the areas of Al-Malikiyah - Derek, Sinjar and Qarajiq, which they use as their bases in northern Iraq and Syria."
It indicated that hideouts, caves, tunnels, ammunition depots, and the so-called command headquarters and training camps of terrorists were targeted during the operation.
She pointed out that utmost consideration was given during the planning and implementation of the operation for the safety of civilians' lives and property, in addition to protecting the environment.
She confirmed that the planes that participated in the operation safely returned to their bases, stressing that operations will continue until the last terrorist is neutralized.
Commenting on the operation, the head of the Turkish Presidency's Communication Department said in a tweet that his country's strategy of drying up the sources of terrorism contributes greatly to the security of the country's borders, its territorial integrity and national unity.
He explained that this strategy serves world peace as well, stressing the need for the international community to support it more.
