Raad Al-Tamimi, head of the Local Union of Agricultural Associations in Diyala, announced on Friday the filing of the first lawsuit against the Minister of Water Resources.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with “Information” that “Hamrin Lake, which constitutes the lifeblood of Diyala, reached its full saturation in the spring of 2019 for the first time in 30 years, with a total reservoir of nearly 3 billion m3, pointing out that according to reports by some specialists, the reservoir is sufficient for the province.” consecutive years”
Al-Tamimi added, "Lake Hamrin is now in a state of depletion, wondering where its water storage went and how it lost it within a short period, stressing that a lawsuit was filed against the Minister of Water Resources to find out the reasons for Diyala's loss of the lake's reservoir, which will lead the province to a major environmental disaster."
He pointed out that, "through the lawsuit, he demanded that Diyala farmers be compensated due to the drought that will lead to the destruction of the rest of the orchards, pointing out that the governorate was not compensated in the spring floods of 2019 or during the drought of 2021."
Lake Hamrin is suffering from the depletion of its water and its sad arrival to a very critical stage, although it reached the stage of full saturation in the spring of 2019.
