Erbil - In the first visit of an Iranian president to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Erbil, on the second stop of his visit to Iraq, where he met with Kurdish leaders, including the President of the Region Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Zeshkian also met with representatives of Kurdish parties and minorities, and held a private meeting with Massoud Barzani, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
“During the meeting, emphasis was placed on coordination and strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the political, economic and cultural fields,” the headquarters of Masoud Barzani said in an official statement after the meeting with Pezeshkian. The statement also said that an official invitation was extended to President Masoud Barzani to visit Iran.
Barzani's invitation to visit Iran has become a matter of great interest to the Kurdish side, especially since Massoud Barzani has not visited Iran for more than 12 years, as his last visit to the neighboring country was in 2011.
