    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Independent MP Jawad Al-Yassari confirmed today, Friday (September 13, 2024), that the House of Representatives’ oversight work is paralyzed due to the strength of corruption within the political process.
The leftist told Baghdad Today, "The House of Representatives' oversight work is paralyzed due to the power of corruption and its influence within the political process. Any parliamentary move is obstructed. There is real political protection for corruption and the corrupt."
He added, "The House of Representatives has no real oversight work, and political protection prevents the representatives from opening the door to corruption files or activating the interrogation files. There are interrogation requests that have been delayed for months, and this has made the parliament dead in terms of oversight."
MPs and officials always stress that the Iraqi parliament’s oversight role is “paralyzed” due to political pressures that prevent it from interrogating officials who have been accused of failure in work and performance, suspicions of corruption, etc. The Iraqi parliament has only conducted very limited interrogations, despite repeated statements by MPs about negligence and corruption in the government’s joints, and efforts to interrogate a number of ministers and officials.
