The Triple Alliance is facing a test of its ability to form a majority government

Baghdad/ Firas Adnan
The Triple Alliance is preparing to hold a session, the date of which will be set in the coming hours, to open the door for candidacy for the position of President of the Republic.
However, the coordinating framework forces seemed to adhere to what is known as the “blocking third,” and the success of the election of the President of the Republic was contingent upon political consensus between the various forces in light of the great difference with the Sadrist movement.
The Federal Supreme Court had previously announced the obligation to present the reopening of the nomination for the post of President of the Republic to the House of Representatives for a vote on it and for one time, non-renewable soon, in order to avoid further delay in forming the government.
Kurdistan Democratic Party MP Majid Shankali said, in a statement to Al-Mada, that "a major challenge facing the tripartite alliance, after it succeeded in electing the Presidency of the House of Representatives, is to expedite the holding of a new session in which the vote will be taken to open the nomination door again for the position of president." Republic.”
Shankali added, "The tripartite alliance seeks to show the extent of its strength and solidity and its ability to hold the session and pass what is consistent with its project, leading to the formation of the political majority government."
He pointed out, "The numbers that will vote to reopen the candidacy door will support the coalition in passing its candidate later for the post of President of the Republic."
Shankali spoke about the "convening of the session as soon as possible based on the dialogues of the tripartite alliance, and its date will be announced within hours in a clear message that this alliance is able to achieve the required quorum."
He believed, "The big obstacle before us is how to achieve a quorum for holding the presidential election session, which requires the presence of at least 220 deputies."
Shankali stressed that "the candidate of the Triple Alliance is the most fortunate and closest to the position of President of the Republic, and he is Reber Ahmed, and we did not present anyone else," stressing that "Ahmed's candidacy has the support of 175 deputies representing the blocs of the Sadrist movement, the Alliance of Sovereignty and the Kurdistan Democratic Party."
Shankali noted, "Other blocs may not vote for our candidate, but they will be present in the session, such as independents and other small forces that won for the first time in the elections, and we believe that their number exceeds 50 deputies."
And he stated, "The total number of these representatives is able to hold the presidential election session. If the selection is not made in the first round by a two-thirds majority, we can pass our candidate in the second round, which requires only the winner of the highest votes among the two highest candidates of the first round."
Shankali went on, "What matters to the coordination framework forces and their allies is not enabling a particular candidate to win the elections because they are convinced that they are unable to do so, but that their efforts will focus towards achieving the blocking third in the hope of getting more time to negotiate."
For his part, a member of the State of Law coalition, Radi Rasoul, said, in a statement to (Al Mada), that “the time required to set a date for holding the parliament session, in light of which the candidacy for the position of President of the Republic is reopened, can be invested in conducting political dialogues, perhaps enabling us to overcome the blockage that We are suffering from it right now.”
Rasoul continued, "The coordination framework is currently seeking to conduct mediation within the Kurdish House, in the hope that they will come out with one candidate, so that Parliament can hold a session to elect the President of the Republic in an easy way, and then we will move to the process of forming the government."
He pointed out that "the understandings that we seek do not only include dialogues within the Kurdish House, but we hope that we will reach agreements with the Sadrist movement, and in this way we will form a capable and strong government supported by everyone."
Rasoul believes, "The coordination framework and its allies have 134 deputies, and this number could disrupt the presidential election session even if the door for nomination is opened again, if the tripartite alliance continues its position by excluding winning and important forces from the political scene."
He stated, "Everything related to the political process and the completion of the process of forming presidencies and the government is related to dialogues between the parties and the need to reach a consensus that serves the political interest."
Rasool concluded, “The Coordination Framework Forces continue their position that they will not participate in the next government as a whole, and refuse to divide or exclude a specific party, whatever that is and under any pressure.”
The Sadrist movement refuses to engage in dialogues with the coordination framework completely and tries to avoid compatibility with forces it deems unwelcome, foremost of which is the State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki.
