    March 29, 2022

    Ultra Iraq - Editorial Team
Attention turns to the parliament session on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, in which the President of the Republic is scheduled to be elected, according to the date set by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi.

Independent MP Hadi Al-Salami says that we will not attend Wednesday's session if a demand paper he submitted to the Triple Alliance is not signed
The Iraqi parliament postponed the voting session on the President of the Republic, which was held on March 26, until tomorrow, Wednesday, after the "Save the Homeland" coalition failed to achieve a quorum of 220 out of 329 deputies, according to the decision of the Federal Supreme Court.

The tripartite alliance, "Save a Homeland", seeks to obtain the votes of 18 deputies to achieve a quorum for the presidential election session, as the coalition was unable during the last session to obtain more than 202 deputies.
Apparently, the tripartite alliance "Save a Homeland" reactivated its movement towards the forces and MPs who chose neutrality or joined the coordination framework row last Saturday, most notably "Eshraqa Kanon", which holds 6 parliamentary seats, and the "Azm" coalition, which has 12 deputies, In addition to the Kurdistan Islamic Union (4 seats), as well as other independent representatives.

Among the independent parliamentarians who did not attend Saturday's session is the representative of Najaf governorate, Hadi al-Salami, who says that "his failure to attend the last session of Parliament in order to choose the President of the Republic came for several reasons that were announced in an explicit statement on his websites."
Al-Salami explained to "Ultra Iraq", that "the failure to attend the presidential election session was caused by the lack of approval by the political bloc that confronts the process of forming the government and passing the Presidency of the Republic also on a paper of demands presented to them as a condition for participating in the session, indicating that" the submitted paper It includes several demands that concern the Iraqi street and raise living standards, including reducing the dollar exchange rate.
There has been no response yet to the demands’ paper, according to Al-Salami, who asserts that “in the event that the non-response continues until before the Wednesday session, we will not attend either, and we will definitely boycott”, because the state - and Salami’s speech - should “not be run by one party, but rather With the participation of all and working for the public interest only.”
Ultra Iraq tried to communicate with the independent representative of Babil Governorate, Hussein Al-Sabri, to find out his position on not attending the last parliament session to choose the president of the republic, and the session on Wednesday as well, but the representative, Al-Sa`bri, apologized for the statement because “he went through a health problem,” he said. .
As for the independent representative of Basra Governorate, Adnan Al-Jabri, believes that the scenario of Saturday's session will be repeated on Wednesday, "due to the lack of clarity in the vision of the majority presented by the tripartite alliance."
Al-Jabri says that "the tripartite alliance will not be able to complete the quorum next Wednesday's session, stressing" as independent MPs, our position is firm and we have observations and criteria for choosing presidencies, noting that "political machines exert pressure on independent representatives and hold them responsible for the failure of the Saturday session."
However, the former minister of the Sadrist movement, Mohsen al-Shammari, confirms in televised statements that "the tripartite alliance is making moves to achieve a quorum for Wednesday's session," noting that "those who resolved their affairs with the coordinating framework do not exceed 90 seats."
Meanwhile, the "Coordination Framework" called on the security forces to provide protection to independent members of parliament from what it said were threats they received after they boycotted the presidential election session last Saturday.
The Coordination Framework said, in a statement, that it "rejects the methods of intimidation and threats directed by well-known and unknown media platforms of political affiliation to the independent parliamentarians who made their political decision not to attend last Saturday's session."

As for the head of the “Azm” alliance, Muthanna al-Samarrai, who also boycotted the Saturday session, he says, “The boycott of the Saturday session came due to the desire of some political parties to exclude us from the government, and not to represent us in it, which means the inability to meet the requirements of our audience, and fulfill promises. that we made to them,” he said, noting that “we are partners in the Sunni decision, and we must have a primary role, and whoever seeks to remove us must bear that.”

Al-Samarrai added, in televised statements, that "the Azm alliance is not with the coordination framework, but rather is a partner to it, and if our demands are fulfilled, which are the demands of our audience, we will then take the decision that serves the public."
The coordination framework relies on the fact that the failure of the last session’s quorum will push the Sadrist movement to return to the consensus of the Shiite house, but the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr confirmed after the failure of the Saturday session, saying: “We will not return to the Attar mixture,” adding, “Today we proved and proved that there is no place for quotas.” This was confirmed by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, who said: "The failure to achieve a quorum for electing the President of the Republic requires us to continue holding sessions until it is achieved."
Earlier, the Triple Alliance warned of the failure of the Parliament session to choose the President of the Republic, and the possibility of dissolving Parliament.
The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Shwan Taha, said that "the failure to hold the next parliament session to choose the president of the republic will lead all political parties towards the unknown," calling on the boycotting political forces to "review their accounts well."
